The Toolbox, Toronto

Remembering the Toolbox Toronto

The Empire Bears have for many years visited the Toolbox in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and stayed at Muther's Guesthouse upstairs above the bar. We always found it a welcoming place to visit, meet old friends and make new ones. One of the "perks" of membership in the Empire Bears was the ability to join the semi-annual club trips in May and October and spend a weekend at the Box at substantially discounted rates.

Sometime in 2001 or so, the owners of the Toolbox realized they weren't getting any younger, and began the process of putting the Toolbox up for sale so they could retire. Over the years several attempts were made to purchase the Box and keep it as a going concern, but financing was always a problem.

On April 24, 2004, it was announced that the Box had been purchased by a developer, who planned to demolish the building in order to build townhouses on the site. Thus began a series of parties and events that culminated in one final closing party on August 28, 2004, the last night the Box was open for business.

Here is a photo gallery of the Empire Bears' farewell visit to the Box.

Mat and Bob, best of luck and thanks for your hospitality. Toolbox Toronto, we'll miss you!
